Special-Environment Proximity Sensors
Standard inductive proximity sensors are rated for about -25 °C to +70 °C, no pressure at the face and ordinary machine surroundings. These five SEGMENsensor series cover the conditions where a standard sensor fails: hydraulic pressure, heat and cold, welding fields, and distance measurement.

Which proximity sensor for a harsh environment?
Choose by the condition at the mounting point. Inside hydraulic cylinders, use a pressure-rated sensor (500 bar M8/M12, up to 1000 bar M18). Above +70 °C, use a high-temperature inductive sensor (to +150 °C) or capacitive sensor (to +180 °C). Next to welding, use a weld-field immune sensor (150 mT). To measure distance instead of switching, use an analog sensor with 4–20 mA or 0–10 V.

Common questions
What counts as a special environment for a proximity sensor?
Any condition outside a standard sensor's rating: pressure at the sensing face, ambient temperature above +70 °C or below -25 °C, strong magnetic fields from welding current, or an application that needs a measured distance instead of an on/off signal.
Can one sensor handle both high pressure and high temperature?
Not in the current range. SGI-HP pressure-rated models operate from -25 °C to +70 °C. Tell us your pressure and temperature together and we will check options.
