Sensors for Malaysian E&E Factories — FAQ

What is the difference between inductive, capacitive and photoelectric sensors?

Inductive sensors detect metal only, at short range, and ignore dust and oil. Capacitive sensors detect almost any material, including plastics and liquids through a tank wall. Photoelectric sensors use a light beam and reach much further — up to 40 m for through-beam types — and detect any opaque object.

PNP or NPN — which should I choose for my PLC?

Match the PLC input card. A PNP sensor switches the positive supply to the input and suits sinking inputs, which are common on European-style PLCs. An NPN sensor switches to 0 V and suits sourcing inputs, which are common on many Japanese-style PLCs. If in doubt, send the PLC input module model.

Can you supply small quantities for maintenance spares?

Yes. The MOQ is one piece for every product, so you can order a few spares or a single replacement. Samples ship in 5–7 working days and production orders take 3–5 weeks.

Do your products carry SIRIM certification?

No, SIRIM certification is not among the certifications we hold. Our proximity sensors carry CE and RoHS documentation to EN 60947-5-2. If your specification requires SIRIM or another local approval, tell us before ordering so we can advise honestly.

Can you match a sensor we already use?

Yes. Send the label, datasheet or photo of the existing part. We match housing size, thread, sensing distance, output type and connection and propose an equivalent SEGMENsensor part number for you to test.
