Mineral processing brings abrasion, froth, dust and vibration. Choose the principle that tolerates the medium at each point, and say honestly where another technology is better.

Process & return water tanks

Sensors for South African Mines — FAQ

Which level sensor works best in slurry and froth?

For heavy slurry and froth, a non-contact radar transmitter is usually best because nothing touches the medium. We do not make radar. For clean or lightly loaded water tanks, a submersible hydrostatic transmitter works well, and for tanks with a clear liquid surface or an interface, an SE-LX magnetostrictive transmitter with a suitable float gives a precise reading.

How do I protect a pressure transmitter from abrasive slurry?

Avoid putting the sensing diaphragm directly in a fast, abrasive flow. Use a diaphragm seal or flushed tapping, mount the transmitter on a tee away from the main flow, and choose a range with margin above the peak pressure. Our transmitters cover 0–0.1 bar to 0–400 bar with 4–20 mA output.

Are your sensors certified for hazardous areas in South African mines?

Our explosion-protected models are SE-PR30 (intrinsically safe) and the SE-LX series (flameproof). Certificate details for the specified model come with the quotation. Equipment used in South African hazardous locations must also meet local Ex certification requirements, so please confirm with SABS or your certification body before ordering.
