How Ultrasonic Flow Meters Are Calibrated: Factory Process
Send the model, pipe size, liquid and quantity — we confirm the testing and calibration documents with the quotation.
How are clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters calibrated? This 7:56 factory video follows SEGMENsensor meters on our water flow test line: the transducers are clamped on the test pipe, the meter is set up, the signal is checked, and the meter reading is compared with the test line before it is released.
Chapters
Key points
- Calibration means comparing the meter reading with the reference of a flow test line and adjusting it until it agrees.
- Every SEGMENsensor clamp-on meter is tested on the water flow test line before it is packed.
- Transducers are clamped to the outside of the test pipe with chain fixtures; the pipe is not cut.
- Pipe data are entered on the meter, then signal strength and quality are checked on the status screen.
- Accuracy depends on the model: U11 ±0.5%; U10, U10S and U20 ±1%; U12 ±2% (±1% after calibration).
What the video shows
This video has no voice-over; the notes below describe what is on screen at each point.
0:15 The water flow test line: stainless vessels, pumps, valves and pipework used to run real flow through the test pipe.
1:00 The test-line control software shows the piping layout, valve states and flow values on screen.
2:00 A pair of clamp-on transducers with their cables and mounting hardware is prepared.
3:00 The transducers are clamped to the test pipe and held in place with chain fixtures.
4:00 The transducer position on the pipe is checked and adjusted by hand.
5:00 Pipe and installation data are entered on a U20 handheld meter.
6:00 The status screen shows the signal values for both transducers before readings are trusted.
7:00 A compact meter on the test pipe displays live velocity and flow.
7:50 A one-piece meter mounted on the test pipe displays instantaneous flow.
